Our Mission
Welcome to Second Chance Parrots, a nonprofit dedicated to helping companion parrots by connecting bird owners with trusted resources, supporting established rescues and sanctuaries, and promoting responsible lifelong parrot care through education, advocacy, and community partnerships.
Educational Resources
We believe education is one of the most powerful ways to improve the lives of companion parrots. By helping current and future bird owners make informed decisions, we can reduce preventable surrenders and strengthen the bond between parrots and their families.
What we do
Second Chance Parrots exists to strengthen the parrot community by supporting the people and organizations dedicated to their care.
We do this by:
Connecting bird owners with trusted rescues, sanctuaries, avian veterinarians, and other parrot resources.
Providing educational resources that encourage responsible ownership and help reduce preventable surrenders.
Supporting established rescues and sanctuaries through fundraising, awareness campaigns, volunteer connections, and community partnerships.
Promoting parrot welfare by increasing public awareness of the unique needs and lifelong commitment required to care for companion parrots.
Our goal is to make it easier for bird owners to find help and for rescues and sanctuaries to receive the support they need.
Why this Matters
Parrots are intelligent, social animals that often live for several decades, sometimes outliving their owners. Because of their long lifespan and specialized care requirements, many birds are surrendered due to changes in family circumstances, behavioral challenges, or a lack of understanding about their needs.
At the same time, many rescues and sanctuaries operate at or near capacity with limited staff and resources. By educating bird owners, connecting families with trusted organizations, and supporting the dedicated rescues already caring for these birds, we hope to improve the lives of parrots throughout our community.
Directors & Specialists
Krystal
Director of Policy and Procedure
Krystal, Our Director of Policy and Procedure leads our East Coast efforts in bird education and parrot welfare advocacy. With 16 years of experience as a vet tech, she is dedicated to developing educational programs, promoting responsible ownership, and ensuring guidelines that support the well-being of parrots in need.
Robin
Director of Communication and Marketing
Robin, is a retired police officer with a lifelong heart for service. She's one of those people who would step in to help in any situation, always putting others first. Her love for birds runs deep-she once even helped a neighbor track down their lost parrot! With her caring nature and steady dedication, Robin brings both compassion and reliability to Second Chance Parrots, making her a trusted friend to people and parrots alike.
Shelley
Executive Director of Operations and Finance
Shelley serves as our Executive Director, leading the Texas Central effort. With an MPA degree and a strong background in public management and operations, Shelley is also our Chief Operations Officer and Grant Writer, ensuring smooth operations and vital funding for our initiatives.
Together, these dedicated leaders are the backbone of Second Chance Parrots, working tirelessly to provide a brighter future for parrots in need.

Tonya
Expert Care Advisor
Tonya, our Expert Care Advisor, leads efforts in parrot education, advocacy, and sanctuary support. With over 20 years of experience working with a wide range of parrot species, she provides expert guidance on responsible ownership, care best practices, and parrot welfare needs. Tonya plays a vital role in educating the public, supporting sanctuary efforts, and helping ensure parrots receive the resources they need for a better future.
